Sunday Musings

Hello everyone!

No card to share with you today, but just thought I'd pop on here to "muse"!

One of my New Year resolutions is to get back to visiting your lovely blogs and leaving comments, and also to 'chat' a bit on my blog.  For the past 'so many' months I've found that I'm only posting when I have a DT card to share, and that's not really what I intended my blog to become.  So I'm tentatively going to start Sunday Musings.  I can't promise to post every week, and I can't promise you'll find what I say interesting (LOL!), but I would love to have a regular post to share things other than DT makes, chat about things and ask for YOUR THOUGHTS.

Okay, so first I want to say that I so appreciate everyone who takes the time to visit me and leave me such lovely and encouraging comments - thank you SO, so much!!  I'm SO sorry that I don't always visit you - that is definitely one of the things that's going to change from now on.

So today's "musing" or "topic of conversation" I'd like to throw out there is ...

to sell or not to sell ... Ebay vs Etsy

I've been making cards for 2 years now, and I have about 150 stored away in boxes.  I find that I make far in excess of what I can give away, and so I'm now at the stage of wondering what to do with them. I would love to live a financially unburdened life where I could give them all away to charity, but unfortunately I can't afford to do that.  Hubby has been unemployed since September, so money is non-existent right now which is why I haven't bought any craft supplies for months!! Thank goodness for my wonderful, generous Design Companies!!

Have any of you tried selling at Craft Fairs here in the UK?  I've tried twice now, and only managed to sell one card to "Joe Public".  I did sell other crafty items (bookmarks, tags, notebooks, etc.) but only ONE CARD!!!  I thought they were very farily priced at £3 each (maximum) and packaged nicely in a cello bag with matching envelope.  So, I think Craft Fairs are a no go, for me at least!  But of course it may be my location?

Anyhoo, so that brings me back to my question of whether to sell on Etsy or Ebay.  I know some fantastic crafters who sell cards on Etsy but don't sell the number I really think they deserve to. Of course, Ebay is HUGE, but I'm not so happy to pay their and PayPal's fees each time.  I would have to sell a card for a minimum amount to at least cover materials and fees!

So... I thought I'd do a little research.  There are almost 12,000 handmade cards currently listed under the Hand-made Cards category at Ebay UK ... so I wonder whether mine would even be found!  Thousands of those seem to be wedding stationery listings, but there are still almost 2,600 hand-made cards listed as Auctions as I type!  Okay, so I know I'm not going to get anyone bidding £62.00 for one of my cards (or even £10), but I would hope to be able to get at least £4 each for them.  However, there are some stunning cards listed for £4 with absolutely NO bids!!

So what to do?  I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on this subject, and perhaps even for you to share your experience.

Hugs,

Whimsy Stamps Circle of Friends Blog Hop

Welcome to the Circle of Friends Blog Hop! If you have arrived here from Linda's blog you are in the right place, if not you may want to start at Crystal's blog so you don't miss anything along the way.

Our Circle of Friends hop is to show our dear friend Annika Ryan that her Whimsy Family is here for her during this difficult time. Everyone needs a circle of friends, and sometimes, during those hard moments, you need to be placed in the center of that circle and be given a big group hug. Though we may be miles away, our hearts are with her along with our support.

Today we all have made her a creation to show her how much we care. Please hop along with us to support our wonderful teammate and friend, Annika.

I have two Whimsy creations especially for dear Annika....

The first is last week's Sketch Saturday DT card using Love in a Bucket and Friendship Ticket Sentiments rubber stamps.  I had already made this card before I heard Annika's sad news, but when I heard what had happened, I really wanted to send it to her.  "Sending hugs" to you, dear girl!

And the second is a card I made especially for Annika.  I've already posted it on my blog earlier today, as I followed today's new Sketch Saturday sketch.  I used Whimsy Stamps Kenny K Collection- All That rubber stamp.  Although I have never 'met' Annika, I imagine her to be cool, fresh and funky, and definitely "all that". And I hope this will bring a smile to her face!

If you know Annika and would like to make a creation for her please go to the end of the hop at Denise's blog and link a card, then email Crystal at crystalkbk30 at gmail dot com to privately give you her address.

This hop will end on 5th February at 12pm (EST) so you have enough time to create a card!!

Thanks so much for hopping along with us today! Your next stop on the hop is Patricia's blog.

Hugs,

SS#140: She's All That

Happy Saturday everyone!

I have my Sketch Saturday card to share with you today.  We have another fab sketch by Jo and this week we are being sponsored by The Craft Barn.

For my card I chose to use one of the brand new Kenny K Collection for Whimsy Stamps RUBBER stamps  - All That.  Yep, that's right, a selection of Kenny K images are now available in gorgeous, deep-etched, cling-mounted, Whimsy Stamps red rubber!  And at only $7.00 each, I think you will agree they are a STEAL!!

I coloured her with Copics (of course!) and also cut into my Cosmo Cricket Circa 1934 pad that I've been hoarding for ages, LOL!

See that ruffled organza ribbon?  ... I made that, hee hee!!  We're on a savings kick at the moment, trying to not spend anything more than necessary, and so instead of buying ruffled ribbon, I decided to 'ruffle' it myself.  Really, really easy!  Just hand sew quite a large running stitch up the centre of the ribbon and then pull to ruffle it!  It looks very dark in the piccie, but it's not so 'shadowy' in real-life. I also didn't have any black flowers, so I use my black Copic marker to colour some very pale lilac ones.

Do hop on by the Sketch Saturday blog to see what my fellow teamies have made - all their cards are GORGEOUS!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

- Bearly Mine #2 Recipe [3 flowers, 2 designer papers, 1 image]
- Craft Your Passion #42 Two patterend papers
- Crafty Cardmakers #38 Floral
- Crafty Catz #67 Flowers
- Dare to be Sassy Thursday #57 Recipe [3 embellies (flowers), 2 patterned papers, 1 ribbon]
- DYSU #4 Patterned Paper
- Friday Fun at Fairy Knoll Flowers
- LIIU #8 Rubber stamp (no digi) and Anything Goes
- Magical Monday #14 Flowers
- OLLCB#72 3 of a kind (I have used 3 flowers)
PWC138 Sewing (I hand-stitched my ribbon to make it ruffly!)
- The Crafty Pad #105 Girly
- Totally Gorjuss #65 As You Like It (I love the new KK rubber stamps and also my Cosmo Cricket paper - yum!)

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

YNS World Kids Blog Hop

Welcome to the Your Next Stamp CHA Release BLOG HOP!

We are so excited here at YNS because Karen has taken YNS to CHA for the very first time! That's right, as you're reading this Karen will be at Winter 2011 CHA at booth #4518! WOO-HOO!!

So to celebrate this event, YNS is releasing some fab new YNS stamps just in time for CHA. You may have already caught a sneak peek of some of them last week over at the Scrapbook & Cards Today blog, but today you get to see all 9 World Kids stamps plus a fabulous new Celebrate Collection from HR Designs and 7 new mini stamps.

These new stamps are available to buy right now from the Your Next Stamp store along with all your YNS favourites.

Of course we couldn't let this release pass by without having a fun blog hop! We also have 4 fabulous guests joining us for our hop - the amazing Tori Wild, Cindy Haffner, Carole Burrage and Maylee Pham!

If you would like to participate in the hop and you didn't arrive here from Tori's blog, please CLICK HERE to return to the start of the hop at Kerri's blog, as you don't want to miss these fab new releases!

The hop starts today (28 January 2011 at 08:00 EST) and ends on 2 February 2011 at midnight EST.

As always here at Your Next Stamp, we have a wonderful prize for you to win! One lucky winner will be drawn at random from the links in the linky list to receive their choice of 3 of the new World Kids stamps!

You will see that every stop along the hop has a linky list - this is the SAME linky list posted on every blog, so that you can enter the prize draw from any stop (although we hope you will visit all the blogs on today's hop!). The linky will update itself on everyone's blog when a link is entered - how cool is that? Please remember to only enter your name ONCE into the linky list during the hop - you do NOT need to enter your name at every stop and multiple entries will be removed. It's not a requirement for you to comment at every stop along the hop to be eligible to be entered into the prize draw, but the DT would sure love to hear what you think of their new release creations!

Karen is also running some special bundle promotions, so be sure to hop on over to the YNS store once you've finished the hop. If you order all 9 World Kids stamps in one bundle, you will save 15% over the cost of buying them individually!

So onto my blog hop creation! I have used one of the adorable World Kids stamps called ERIN from Ireland:

I really wanted to recreate the Irish flag for the background of this card.  First I used some plain pieces of green, white and orange card, but once I'd coloured up the images and placed them on, it just didn't look right!!  So I rifled through my papers (they definitely need sorting, LOL!) and found an old SU paper pad from which I took the green and orange patterned paper.  I then found an 8x8 DCWV pad and found the gorgeous middle panel at the edge of one of the papers. The gold pattern is sparkly and feels like velvet!! So much better IRL than in the photo!  I also hand-stitched ... yep, that's right HAND-STITCHED the gold thread around the border.  I painstakingly pierced all the holes with my SU paper piercer and guide and then hand-stitched!! I adore the finish it's given to the card ... so now I absolutely NEED a sewing machine for my card making, LOL!

Here is a complete blog hop list in hopping order:

So now it's time for you to hop on over to Sylvia's blog as she is the next stop on our hop, but I'd love it if you left me a comment before you go!

I'd like to enter this card into the Creative Card Crew challenge Show Us the Colours of Your Country!

Thanks so much for hopping with us today! I hope you enjoy our new release!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Welcome to a brand new Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps challenge! With Valentine's Day right around the corner, this week our challenge is .... LOVE IS IN THE AIR!  So of course I had to use one of our December release Valentine's images - Cupid Emily.

I followed yesterday's Mojo Monday sketch #175 but used the sketch in its mirror-image and substituted the bow and pin for the 3 tiny punched-out hearts. I also followed TPE92 which is a colour combo of red, brown and pink.

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Sketch Saturday #139: Love in a Bucket

Supplies
Whimsy Stamps 'Love in a Bucket' and 'Friendship Ticket' stamps ~ Cosmo Cricket DeLovely 6x6 paper pad ~ Core'dinations VB020 Montego Bay & PP030 Fuschia Fizz cardstock ~ Wild Orchid Crafts flowers ~ flatback pearls & gems ~ satin ribbon ~ Martha Stewart border punch ~ Spellbinders circle nestabilities dies

Happy weekend!!

Today I have my Sketch Saturday DT make to share.  We have another wonderful sketch from Jo and this week we are being sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps :

I'm a bit disappointed with my photography skills for this card, as the green looks really blue!!  If you have the Cosmo Cricket DeLovely pad, then you will know how the colours should look.  It looks as though my ribbon and cardstock don't match, but I promise you they do!!  Also the pinkWOC flowers look more orange than they are IRL!  Never mind - hopefully the colours will look correct on your PC monitor!!

Okay, moan over, LOL!  I pulled out one of the gorgeous new rubber releases from Whimsy Stamps - Love in a Bucket.  Aren't these too the cutest? Aw! I also used one of the new ticket sentiments too - Friendship Ticket Sentiments - stamping it twice and using as 'tags'.

Finally, I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

- Belli Challenge #109 Letter P (pink)
- Bunny Zoe Crafts #8 Love is in the Air
- Cute Card Thursday #48 Recipe 1,2,3 (1 ribbon, 2 different stamps, 3 different patterned papers)

YNS Challenge #34: Baby it's Cold Outside...

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Welcome to YNS Challenge #34!!  It's the lovely Linda's turn to host this fortnight's challenge and she has given us the wonderful theme of "Baby It's Cold Outside" (love that song!), and so we want to see you.... CREATE A WINTER SCENE.

I wanted to think a little 'out-of-this-box' on this one and try not to use the usual trees or skating/sledding images and so I went for this cute Fhiona's Gingerbread house which I have coloured to make it look like it's covered in snow! This stamp is very versatile.  Even though I have coloured it in traditional 'Christmas' colours and so made it look wintery, you could colour the ground snow as grass and the icing snow in a different colour and make a bright and cheerful summery card!  In fact, I think I'll try that next time, so watch this space, LOL!
I do hope you will pop by the YNS Challenge blog and see what yumminess my YNS DT sisters have made - I promise you won't be disappointed!

Thanks for dropping by!

Sparkle Creations Challenge #26: Photo Inspiration

Happy Tuesday everyone! Welcome to a brand new Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps challenge! This week we have a lovely photo from the Pottery Barn for your inspiration, full of lovely pinks and browns, yum!

For my creation I used Celebrating Chloe from our most recent release:

Supplies
OA PP039 Weathervane 'Chilly Mornings' - Core'dinations PP020 St Valentino cardstock - Spellbinders nestabilities - Woodware corner rounder punch - Copic markers - White satin ribbon - X-cut butterfly punch

I followed the fabulous sketch #98 at Card Patterns for my layout.  I took inspiration from the polka dot suitcases for my DP and pink accent card, and took inspiration from the butterfly suitcases by adding some teeny tiny punched out butterflies in the top left corner.

Sparkle Creations Challenge #25: Kim's Sketch

Happy Tuesday everyone! Welcome to a brand new Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps challenge! This week we have a wonderful sketch by the super-talented Kim for you to follow.  I turned the sketch 180 degrees to the right:

I couldn't resist using the just-been-released Birthday Josh stamp for my card.  He is definitely one of my favourite stamps ... but then ALL of Sparkle Creations are amazing, hee hee!  Don't forget that Sparkle is celebrating the SCRS 6-month anniversary and is offering everyone 20% off everything in the store until January 22nd!! WOW!! All you have to do is remember to use the code CELEBRATE when checking out to receive your discount!  That means you can grab each stamp for $6.40 instead of the usual $8.00 - what a bargain! (I think they are awesomely priced at $8 anyway!).

I finally cut into my Basic Grey Marjolaine 6x6 paper pad that was a gift from a very sweet and good friend! (thank you again, sweetie!).  My most fave colour combo of all time is lime green and turquoise blue so this paper couldn't be more perfect for me!

Sparkle Creations challenge is open to all players. Each week a random winner will be chosen, and they will receive a SCRS rubber stamp. [In order to qualify for a prize, you must use a Sparkle Creations image on your creation.]

This card isn't quite finished, as I want to add some swirly dots all around the image, but .... I thought I'd photograph it before I added them just in case it doesn't quite work out, LOL!  So watch this space for an updated photo ... or not! Ha ha!!

Sparkle Creations Challenge #24: Tie it Up

Happy Tuesday everyone! Welcome to a brand new Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps challenge! This week we are challenging you to .... TIE IT UP!

As soon as I saw the title of this challenge, I couldn't help but hear the Disney "Shake It Up" theme in my head, LOL!  Having a 9 and a half yr old daughter means that I get to be pretty up-to-date with kids shows and Shake It Up is the latest addition to the UK Disney Channel. So instead of "Shake It Up" it's "Tie It Up".  Anyone who has seen this show will know what I mean ... and anyone who hasn't, well, just ignore my ramblings, ROFL!!

So onto my card!  I have used Charlotte with a Rose for my creation and followed Mojo Monday's brand new sketch #172:

Sparkle Creations challenge is open to all players. Each week a random winner will be chosen, and they will receive a SCRS rubber stamp. [In order to qualify for a prize, you must use a Sparkle Creations image on your creation.]

Sketch Saturday & Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!!  Gosh, didn't 2010 just fly by?  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and fabulous New Year celebrations last night!

Divvy-old me thought we weren't 'starting back' at Sketch Saturday until next Saturday, duh!!  Sorry girls!!

I will endeavour to make my SS DT card this week, but it will be a few days late, as dd doesn't return to school until Tuesday and of course hubby is home.  This month is going to be extremely busy for me as I have worked out I have 16 DT cards to make, not including YNS CHA stuff and other releases that don't have a definite released date yet!  EEK!!  And there are other things going on IRL that need my time!  Has the 48 hr day been invented yet, LOL!?
So my very first post of 2011 is a bit of dud, but I'm going to post all the deets of the SS challenge even though I don't have a card to show you yet!!

It's DT week over at SS and so our wonderful leader Jo gets to have a rest and one of DT provides the sketch!  It's Jilli's turn today, and what a FABULOUS sketch she's given us to play with to kick off the New Year.  If you take part, you will be entered into the draw to win a $10.00 GC from Create with TLC.

So thank you for dropping by!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! And I hope 2011 is a GREAT year for you!  See you very soon with my first DT make of 2011! *wink*

Hugs,
