Whimsy DT: Crafty Angel Turtle

Hi everyone!

Today I'd like to share with you a Whimsy DT card I've just finished following Caz's scrummmy sketch over at Crafty Angels (but turned it 90 degrees to the left). I've used this adorable image called "Whimsy Turtle" - isn't his expression so cute!

Although I knew I wanted to use my Basic Grey Marrakech 6x6 paper pad, I spent ages choosing exactly which papers to use, LOL!  I also spent ages tying the fiddly twine through the small buttons that I added to the centre of my flowers:

Finally, I decided to stamp one of the wonderful Whimsy Circle Postmark stamps straight onto the DP using my Jumbo Java Versamagic Dew Drop:

I'm really pleased with how this card came out, as I love the rich colours of the Marrakech pad.

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

1. Crafty Angels ... Week 11 Caz's sketch : I've followed Caz's sketch which worked perfectly for this image - thanks hun!

2. Allsorts Challenge Blog ... Week 29 Buttons : I've added buttons to the middle of my flowers.

Thanks for popping by and for any comments you may have!

Hugs, Sem x

Sketch Saturday #79: Miss Anya Autumn

Happy Saturday everyone!

First I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all my wonderful crafty friends who have sent me get well wishes and wonderful caring comments.  You are the best! :o)

Today at Sketch Saturday, we have another one of Jo's fab sketches, and as it's the last Saturday of the month, our sponsor is The Craft Barn.

As you can probably see, I rotated the sketch 90 degress to the left to fit the image I wanted to use - this gorgeous new Miss Anya Autumn digi stamp (only available as a digi stamp direct from The Greeting Farm).  In fact, The Greeting Farm have some fab new Season Fairies digi stamps, so I may just have to have a couple of those too, LOL!

I love my Miss Anyas, and am proud to say that I own every single one of them!  But don't look too closely at the colouring of her face, as I'm SO embarrassed ... it's blotchy!!  My newly ordered E00 Copic Ciao hadn't arrived when I coloured this, and so I had to literally eek out what little ink there was left in my original one!  It has well and truly died now, so it's been chucked in the bin!

I did contact the online retailer from whom I bought my Copic Ciaos 36A set, and unfortunately they were very rude to me.  I didn't ask them to replace the pen, but merely asked their advice, and they took the defensive line straightaway.  Suffice to say I won't be ordering from them again!  I don't care what they say, I don't expect a Copic Ciao to last to colour only 20 small stamped faces ... and I don't leave the caps off, I store them in the case they arrived in (brush nib down), and don't over-colour.  Okay, rant over, LOL!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

1. Anyone for Anya? ... Make a Fake : They want to see anything fake (or 'faux'), so I've got fake pearls and fake gems on my card, and if you stretch your imagination a little, you could even say I've created some fake lace with my MS border punch (...well ... almost, LOL!)

2. Creative Card Crew ... Challenge #38 Favourite Things : As I've said, my TGF Miss Anya stamps are my favourite stamps, and of course my half-back pearls (which seem to find their way onto almost every card!).

Hope you all have a great weekend (and that Mr Blogger plays nice and posts this scheduled post!!), and be sure to pop on over to Sketch Saturday to feast your eyes on the rest of DT's delights!

TFL! Hugs, Sem x

Midnight Madness with Bubbly Fun Fhiona

Hi everyone!

First a big apology from me for not getting around to all your lovely blogs and leaving comments.

I know there are bigger things that are going on in the world, but for me in my little world, I am really upset about my teeth at the moment.  If you remember, I had a failed extraction 2 weeks ago of an infected molar.  Anyway, I was told by my dentist that I would have to have it out under general to protect my dodgy jaw, and that she would refer me to a private clinic who also took emergency NHS dental patients.  Well, I have now been contacted by them and they can't see me until 18th December, plus they said they will only sedate me!  I don't know what I'm going to do for the next 3-4 weeks!  I've already been in pain for 3 weeks with this tooth, and I'm on my 3rd course of antibiotics (which surely can't be good for me?).  I'm feeling so down about everything, and just so upset at the moment.  To top it all off, the tooth that I had the root canal for 5 weeks ago is now starting to ache, so I'm sure there's an infection in that!  Unfortunately, my dentist can't finish off that treatment until the other tooth is extracted, as the are only separated by one other tooth.  I find that if I talk for any longer than 5 minutes, the pain increases.

So please bear with me as I work through this.  Although I want to craft, I'm finding that my mojo has gone on its Christmas holiday a little earlier, which is depressing me further, LOL!  I hope that you'll forgive me for not visiting and commenting quite so often, and I promise I'll make up for it when all this is over.

But I do have this card to share with you today.  Your Next Stamp is sponsoring the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #29 this week, and so I have made a card following their sketch and using my Your Next Stamp Bubbly Fun Fhiona.  The card kind of evolved from the sketch when I was making it, as I was going to use the bubble stamp that comes with the set in the top and bottom corners (so there would be four stamps down each side column), but I then used pearls instead, which was still following the sketch until I popped a couple between the duck and champagne glass:

I have added Stickles to the 2 champagne glasses, the stars on the bathtub, plus the stars on Fhiona's headband, although it was really hard to capture the sparkle!

TFL!
Hugs, Sem x

Sunday Sketch & Stamp 16: Squiggle Fairy

It's such a miserable day here in the South West - dark, very wet and cold, urgh! - but it's not all doom and gloom as it's Sunday and time for a new sketch at Sunday Sketch & Stamp ... set by me!!  Our sponsor this fortnight is the fabulous Crafts4Eternity, and you could win a set of brand new Christmas Cupcakes digi stamps if you take part.

Michele from Crafts4Eternity very generously gave all the SS&S girls the digi stamps to play with for this challenge, but it's just typical that our bloomin' PC just will not recognise our printer anymore!!  We have Vista SP2, and it's just been one problem after another!  I've tried re-installing the printer twice now, but no, it's not having any of it!  So ... unfortunately I couldn't use the digi stamps, so I opted for this adorable Squiggle Stamps 'Fairy Gifts' instead!

Don't look too hard at the colouring - it's much better IRL, I promise, LOL!  Because it's so dark here, I've had to use my naff photo-editing software (free HP Photosmart!) and it has made her look rather red in the face, and her wings glow neon pink!  I decided to make another easel card, as the paper pad that I chose the DP from also had a fab piece of paper that worked so well for the 'prop' of the easel!

To all my fellow Copic Ciao users, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this .... my E00 Copic Ciao decided to die on me halfway through colouring this cutie's face! I have to say that I wasn't impresed at all - I've only had my 36A set of Copics since the end of June (so barely 5 months), and none of the other colours have died! In fact, I've just counted the number of 'faces' I've coloured with it, and it's only 20!!! (As you all know, I use my Whisper Pens too). I don't think that's acceptable at all! So if anyone has any thoughts, I'd be so glad to hear them...

Thanks for popping by everyone.  I've now had a letter from the emergency dental place to have my tooth extracted under general anesthetic (yay!), so I hope that I will be able to make an appointment for this week when I telephone them tomorrow ... fingers crossed!  As the saying goes ... "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth teeth fixed!" LOL!

Hugs, Sem x

Sketch Saturday #78: Jolly Puppy Kisses

It's Saturday, so time for a brand new sketch at Sketch Saturday!  Sketch #78 is sponsored by Quixotic Paperie, and if you take part, you could win the beautiful 'Fashionista' stamp by Elisabeth Bell.

I really wanted to use one of my Crissy Armstrong Whimsy Stamps, so I turned Jo's fab sketch 90 degrees to the left.

I took an absolute AGE to colour this fabulous 'Jolly Puppy Kisses' image from the Whimsy Stamps Crissy Armstrong Holiday collection, but I have to say that I am so pleased with the result!  I'm just bummed that it's dark, cold and wet here (typical November day), so I can't get a good piccie!

I've also used one of the fab Whimsy Holiday Postmark Sentiments, designed by Whimsy's very own Ann Vento!  Ann has designed 2 sets of Postmark Sentiments for Whimsy, and they are by far my most favourite sentiment stamps!

Once I'd coloured Santa, I hunted for some suitable papers, and as I only own the Imaginisce Christmas papers and the MME Colourful Christmas papers (I had to buy the whole set of papers after I made my last Whimsy Christmas card with the only piece I owned of that range!!), and so as the MME paper is accented with pink rather than red, I went with the Imaginisce.  I don't mind admitting that I spent about 40 minutes to-ing and fro-ing between which papers to use, but settled on this, accented with Core'dinations card, which is appropriately called 'Poinsettia'!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

1. Allsorts Challenge ... Week #28 : To take inspiration from a Christmas Carol or a Song Title, so I have chosen one of my fave Christmas songs: "Santa Claus is coming to town".
2. One Stop Craft Challenge ... Challenge #56 Snowflakes : I have used my Woodware snowflake punches with some gorgeous glitter card!
3. Colour Create ... Challenge #32 'Green, Red and White' : I definitely have lots of green, red and white (...with a little smattering of blue too!)
4. Simon Says Challenge ... Animal Antics : They want you to include an animal somewhere on your creation.
5. Creative Inspirations ... Challenge #36 Sparkle : My DP and snowflakes have glitter!

Make sure you hop on over to Sketch Saturday, and take a peek at all the DT's wonderful creations - there's so much to inspire you!

Thanks for dropping by!

Allsorts of Squiggle Papertake!

Morning everyone!

Today I'd like to show you a Squiggle Stamps DT card I've made following Dawny P's scrummy Sketch #28 over at the Papertake Weekly Challenge blog.  I'm really into my 'symmetrical' sketches at the moment - don't know why! - so this one suited me down to the ground!

The stamp I've used is by Squiggle Stamps and is called 'Oscar with Plane'.  I was so pleased with how the colouring of Oscar's hair turned out, but unfortunately the piccies don't show its true colour well (he's not as 'red-haired' in real-life, LOL!).  And of course I had to sneak in my fave technique - paper piecing his dungarees:

I'd like to enter this card into the following 2 challenges:

1. Papertake Weekly Challenge ... Sketch #28 : I've followed Dawny P's great sketch!

2. Allsorts Challenge ... Week #27 : They want to see something made for a child, and this card certainly fits the bill for a young boy!

Thanks for dropping by!

Hugs, Sem x

Your Next Stamp Challenge 4: Be Thankful!

[NB This is another scheduled post, as I have a dental appointment this morning, so fingers crossed Mr Blogger has played nice again!]

It's Wednesday again and time for a brand new sketch over at Your Next Stamp Challenges! It's YNS DT Starlet Stephanie's turn to host this challenge, and she has chosen the theme of 'Be Thankful'.

There are a few changes I need to tell you about the conditions for entry for YNS challenge 4:

- You are allowed to use ANY stamp on your challenge entry cards (not just YNS images).
- HOWEVER ... if you use a YNS image on your challenge entry, your name will be entered twice for the random winner prize.
- Everyone who participates will get one YNS limited digi stamp FREE!!  (NB if you already own all the digi’s then you will receive a $3 coupon code to use at the store instead - Karen will personalize a code for you and send this to you by email).

The prizes for challenge #4 are:

1. One randomly chosen entry will win $10 in 'YNS bucks' to spend at the store.
2. The challenge host will choose her favourite card and that person will be awarded the YNS Challenge Top Pick Blinkie to display on their blog.

For my challenge card, I chose to use my brand new 'Home Sweet Home' stamp from the 'Our First Home Set'. (You can also buy this stamp on its own by clicking here).  I wanted to use my new SU papers, so I went with the blue/kraft colour theme.  I also went a-hunting for a sketch to follow, and SCS sketch 248 seemed to work well.

I have to admit that I'm not particularly pleased with this card.  Even though my dental pain is now manageable, I've now been on penicillin for 2 weeks, and I'm feeling a little 'flat'. This seems to have been going on forever now, and I'd love to eat normally and just 'be', LOL!  Unfortunately, I have plenty more treatment to come, and so the run up to Christmas is looking a bit pants for me!  I definitely feel like my mojo has taken flight, as it's taking me ages to make the most simplest of cards, and then I'm not happy with the end result!  But I'm determined to push through, as I'm not going to let this beat me, LOL!

Anyway, enough of the ongoing teeth saga!

So now we've opened up YNS challenge 4 to all stamps, we'd love to see you joining in!  (Challenge 4 ends on Tuesdays 1st December!)

TFL!

Hugs, Sem x

GDT SophistiCat Challenge: Squiggle Oscar

NB This is a scheduled post, as my teeth/mouth are still driving me crazy, so I hope Mr Blogger plays nice!

Happy Monday everyone!  It's a happy Monday for me, because today I get to be a Guest Designer for Challenge #11 over at the SophistiCat Challenge Blog.  The lovely Lisa asked me to set the challenge, so I whipped up the following sketch (in SophistiCat's colours, of course!):

I chose to use this adorable Oscar on a sledge (soon-to-be-released) image from Squiggle Stamps.  I coloured him using Copics and glittered up the pom-pom on his hat with Stickles:

When I received the stamped images of these soon-to-be-released Squiggle Stamps, I knew instantly that my neglected Imaginisce papers would be perfect for this cutie, using Oscar's hat for inspiration for the 'hat' paper, and the shape of Oscar's sledge mirroring the Candy Cane paper!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

1. Creative Inspirations ... Challenge #35 New or Neglected : My image is brand new, and my papers are new and neglected, as I bought them a month ago and they haven't been used yet!

2. Cute Card Thursday ... Challenge #86 Glitter me Silly : To use glitter (I've used stickles on the pom-pom of Oscar's bobble hat!).

3. Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge ... Challenge #58 Four Seasons : Well, winter always means 'Christmas' to me, LOL!

Well, that's it from me for another day (...that's if Mr Blogger has played nice and posted this scheduled post!).  Hope you like my card and hope to see you at the SophstiCat's challenge this week!

Have a great day!

Hugs, Sem x

Sketch Saturday #77: Sweet November 'Buttercup Reedweb'

It's Saturday again (yay!) and time for a brand new sketch over at Sketch Saturday!  As it's the 2nd Saturday of the month, this challenge is being sponsored by one of our regular sponsors - Simon Says Stamp!

I'm going to keep this post short, as I am still in a huge amount of dental pain.  I went to have my lower right 2nd molar extracted on Tuesday, but after a lot of pulling and tugging, the dentist decided not to extract it for fear of damaging my jaw (my jaw is a bit odd coz I can't open my mouth fully without my lower jaw moving weirdly and the hinges clicking loudly, and the pressure she was having to apply to wiggle the tooth free made it feel like she was going to break my jaw!). So she has referred me to have it extracted under general anaesthetic (hopefully in a couple of weeks!).  Unfortunately I now have all the pain of an extraction, but the tooth still remains, which makes it almost impossible to bite! On the upside, I've had to stop biting my nails, plus it's given my long overdue diet a kickstart, as all I've been scoffing is Heniz tomato soup!

Anyway, onto my card...  I was lucky enough to win one of Amy Young's mini candy draws a few weeks back, which was one of her brand new Sweet November stamps, plus a card making kit she put together.  So I tip my hat to Amy for this card - thanks hun!

This stamp is called 'Buttercup Reedweb' and is one of 4 in the 'Sweet November' range of stamps designed by Amy for C C Designs.  You can buy them as digi stamps from All That Scraps right now by clicking here, or if you prefer rubber then All That Scraps stocks them here, or Elaine at Quixotic Paperie has them in stock here for us Brits!

Obviously, I had to glitter up her wings!  I used my scallop circle nesties to cut out the circle of kraft card and then ran it back through the CB in an embossing folder, finally inking the embossed parts with one of my trusty Versamagic Dew Drops.

[If you want to view any of my piccies in better detail, just click them to enlarge them!]

Okay, well that's it from me (sorry, this post wasn't that short after all, LOL).  Make sure you hop on over to Sketch Saturday and take a wee looksie at all the DT's scrummy work - you won't be disappointed!

Hugs, Sem x

On the Eighth Day of Christmas ...

Whimsy Stamps Blog Hop

On the eighth day of Christmas ...
my true love sent to me:
Eight Maids a Milking
Seven Swans a Swimming
Six Geese a Laying
Five Golden Rings
Four Calling Birds
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Whimsy Stamps new release '12 Days of Christmas' BLOG HOP! The DT have 4 fantastic new stamps to show to you today from the brand new Crissy Armstrong Holiday Collection!  Yep, that's right, Whimsy has a brand new designer - the fabulous Crissy Armstrong!

If you'd like to participate in the hop, and you didn't arrive here from Sharon's blog, then click here to return to the start of the blog hop, as you don't want to miss all the fab new releases as we hop through the 12 Days of Christmas!

The hop starts today (Tuesday 10th November at 12noon ET) and ends on Friday 13th November at 12 noon ET (that's 5.00 pm for us Brits!).

As always here at Whimsy, we have a fab grand prize for you to win at the end of this hop... Mystery Candy with Stamps ... but remember that to be eligible to be entered into the draw to win our hop prizes, you must leave a comment on EVERY blog along the hop.

So for my blog hop/new release card, I have used this brand new adorable stamp called "Very Present Helpers", which is available to buy right now (along with all the other stamps you'll see along the hop) at the Whimsy Stamps store.

The 'present' was just crying out to be paper pieced - this is my fave technique, as I love how it ties the image in with the papers.  And I had so much fun colouring this adorable kitties and that wonderful bow and ribbon (I tried to make it look shiny!).

I had one of those "ah-ha" moments, and used the border punch to create the punched corners on the image.  I was a little scared about doing it when the idea popped into my head, as before I punched the corners I had already coloured and paper-pieced the image .. so it could have gone horribly wrong, but thankfully it didn't and I didn't have to start over!

Originally I had hand-tied a bow in the grosgrain ribbon to put on the card, but I decided to use some satin ribbon and sew a kind of rosette type bow instead in an attempt to match the bow on the top of the present of the image!

I had great fun making this card, and the image was fabulous to stamp and colour.

So now you need to continue the hop by singing your way over to the fabulous and amazing talented Vicki ... altogether now - "on the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me ..."

Thanks for hopping with us today!

Hugs, Sem x
